they are instruments for interfering with markets to maximize profit,
and wealth and market control.
people have been defending their own privacy for centuries with whispers, darkness, envelopes, closed doors, secret handshakes, and couriers.
we cannot expect governments, corporations, or other large, faceless organizations to grant us privacy out of their beneficence.
democracy no longer means what it was meant to. it has been taken back into the workshop.
each of its institutions has been hollowed out, and it has been returned to us as a vehicle for the free market, of the corporations.

freedom of enterprise was from the beginning not altogether a blessing.
as the liberty to work or to starve, it spelled toil, insecurity, and fear for the vast majority of the population.
if the individual were no longer compelled to prove himself on the market, as a free economic subject, the disappearance of this kind of freedom would be one of the greatest achievements of civilization.
